Toby Churchill Ltd is the only communication aid manufacturer that is run by someone who is physically and speech disabled, the user of a communication aid, and also the designer of the products. Toby became disabled and lost his speech in the late 1960s following an attack of encephalitis while studying as an engineering student. Dissatisfied with the communication aids then available, he designed the first Lightwriter for his own use and, after meeting other people with similar needs, started to manufacture them.

There are now thousands of Lightwriter users world-wide, and Toby Churchill is the leading European manufacturer of communication aids.

Finance Director Sheila Churchill liked Access Accounts’ approach to debtors. “Access gives you everything you need to clear a debt. Every business needs to get paid after delivering the goods. Access keeps track of how long every invoice is outstanding before it is paid and then calculates the average debtor days for each of our customers. This allows automation of the function of putting customers on (or off) stop. A single command checks and amends the credit status for all of our customers, taking just seconds to do what used to take days,” she said.
