The current nature of the accountancy sector is such that jobseekers are in a relatively strong position, with there being a lack of qualified accountants to meet employment demands, according to one expert.
Subsequently, businesses requiring accountants are having to make extra effort to secure the necessary talent, offering bigger salaries and looking further afield for the right staff, reports Accountancy Age.
According to experts at Robert Walters average salaries for accountancy firms in London have risen by as much as 20 per cent, indicative of the heavy demand for those services. However Andrew Chancellor of Robert Walters maintains that employers must offer more than simply cash incentives.
"It's no longer enough to offer a great salary," he told Accountancy Magazine. "Candidates know they are in demand and want the whole package, flexible working, bonuses and share options."
John Stuttard, lord mayor of the City of London, recently asserted that the UK offers the best accountancy training in the world, with better professional bodies than in any other country.
