Nearly all of the graduates from the first degree to include paid work as a chartered accountant have careers with Big Four firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
Reported in the Newcastle Journal, the Flying Start degree programme is run by Newcastle University, PwC and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).
"Today's graduates now have an excellent foundation to build a career in professional services and graduates can take an accelerated route to qualify as a chartered accountant (ACA)," commented Dr Raymond Madden, the ICAEW's executive director of learning and professional development.
He explained that the "innovative" degree links academic theory with practical experience in the business.
Following their graduation, the PwC employees can expect to become fully qualified chartered accountants within the next year.
Dr Maddon told the news provider that the ACA is the most prominent qualification among business leaders, with 67 per cent of qualified accountants acting as finance director or chief executive officer within FTSE 100 companies hold the ACA.
Accountancy Age reported that of qualified accountants leaving the industry, a "surprising number" return within a year.
