Over half of company chief executives believe IT is the key to the success of their business but are failing to fully make use of technology, a study has shown.
Findings by research firm Penn, Schoen and Berland Associates for HP highlight that 99 per cent of company bosses felt that IT was vital for their business' success; however, of these, 57 per cent realised they were not adequately exploiting their assets, reports IT Pro.
In addition, the survey found that the majority of chief information officers felt the same, with 86 per cent believing IT to be the main success driver, but 65 per cent felt their firm's technology was not being taken advantage of.
Despite the results, almost half of chief executives said they believed their technology was successfully aligned with their business.
Earlier this year, a study by Vanson Bourne found that only two per cent of company IT directors felt eager to spend money on new technology.
"The 21st century sees us as users moving into a new era where IT is critical to the operations of most corporations and commands significant investment and resources," said Ann Livermore, worldwide manager of HP's technology solutions group.
